Spending time in a sauna can help you relax, reduce stress, improve circulation, relieve muscle tension, and boost your overall well-being. Additionally, the sauna can either be very social, quiet and meditative, or both! Please see our links to some studies on the health benefits.
We offer a variety of memberships. Full memberships include voting rights during regular meetings and ability to lead your own sauna sessions, as well as serve as a member of the Board of Directors. Associate memberships are for those that want the occasional social sauna with no long term commitment. Affiliate memberships are for those that are already members of other sauna societies (e.g. Gustavus Sauna Society in MN, USA or Tantobastu in Stockholm, Sweden) and are visiting the area.
The saunas used by the Maryland Sauna Society are private property. Members can sign up for group sessions approved by the host saunas that are open to all members. Additionally, a full member may host their own group in the main sauna. However, some volunteer sauna owners may also be open to allow use by others outside of the Society.
Fill out the application and submit via email. After review and approval, you will receive an email letting you know to pay your membership dues. Upon payment you are officially a member!
Yes, there are rules for use of the sauna that members must agree to follow. The member application includes an affirmation that the applicant will follow rules upon becoming a member. Failure to follow the rules may result in loss of membership.
