Maryland Sauna Society Membership Rules
To ensure a harmonious and enjoyable experience for all members, we have established the following guidelines.
Membership Dues:
- Membership dues cover the cost of firewood, utilities, website, administrative fees, and towel laundering.
- Dues vary based on membership tier.
Membership Tiers:
Guest Access:
- Available on designated open days upon payment of fee, if accompanied by a full member.
- Access to communal sauna sessions
- Towels and water provided
Associate & Affiliate Membership:
- Access to communal sauna sessions on designated open days
- Towels and water provided
Full Membership:
- Access to communal sauna sessions
- Priority scheduling for private group sessions/ability to host
- Towels and water provided
- Voting rights
- May serve on board of directors
Usage Rules:
Attire:
- No outside shoes or clothing inside the sauna.
- Guests are encouraged to bring their sauna-appropriate attire.
- Members may choose to sauna in the nude, but must wear a towel or robe outside
Hydration:
- Water is provided for hydration; no other beverages allowed inside the sauna.
- Alcohol consumption is permitted in designated areas outside the sauna.
Sauna Etiquette:
- Respect the quiet and reflective atmosphere within the sauna.
- Guests are encouraged to maintain a moderate noise level.
- Use a towel as a barrier between your skin and the sauna benches.
- No soaps, lotions or oils are permitted in the sauna, other than the sauna oil in the water bucket.
- Please, no PDA!
- Smoking is not permitted anywhere in or around the sauna.
Adding Water to Sauna Rocks:
- Seek permission from your fellow sauna users before adding water to the sauna rocks.
- Follow host guidelines on water quantity to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
Only Attend When Appropriate
- Please only attend for a session that you have signed up to attend. Space is limited.
- Some of our group sessions are intended for single gender groups, so that those that would prefer to not sauna in mixed groups have a designated time.
Respect Each Other:
- Our group is meant to be fun and relaxing. To that end, if a member is making others uncomfortable or is not following rules, please report their behavior. They may have their membership revoked so that others can continue to enjoy themselves in a safe environment.
Scheduling:
Open Days:
- Designated days when the sauna is open to all members.
Member Scheduled Sessions:
- Full Members can schedule private group (up to 10) sauna sessions on available days if they are willing to host.
Restroom/Changing:
1. Members may use the restrooms on the ground floor of the residence.
2. Members may use the shower in the larger bathroom.
3. Bags are provided for storing your personal items/clothing while you are in the sauna
4. Members may change in the sauna lounge area
Additional Amenities:
1. There are two speakers that can be used during the sauna, one inside and one outside. If you use the outside speaker please make sure the volume is low, especially later at night. Please make sure everyone is enjoying the music selected.
2. Members may have a fire in the fire pit on the deck outside the sauna
3. Members may use the cooler to store beverages
